The publisher of an online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, has predicted serious trouble for Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Rivers State, Godwin Emefiele and Nyesom Wike respectively if Bola Tinubu or Atiku Abubakar wins the forthcoming presidential election.
Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Atiku is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jaafar Jaafar stated this in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Thursday.
According to Jaafar Jaafar, Wike’s G-5 and paucity of cash had almost knocked Atiku out of the race when Emefiele breathed new life into his campaign and left Tinubu gasping for breath.
He wrote, “One of these two – Emefiele and Wike – will be in serious trouble if Tinubu or Atiku wins.
“Wike’s G-5 and paucity of cash had almost knocked Atiku out of the race when Emefiele breathed new life into his campaign and left Tinubu gasping for breath.”
Wike is the leader of the G-5 group, a group of five PDP governors that is opposed to the presidential ambition of Atiku due to the refusal of the national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office for a southerner to take over.
The group argued that both the presidential candidate of the party and its national chairman can not come from the same region (North).
Atiku hails from Adamawa – North East while Ayu comes from Benue – North Central.
The group, particularly Wike, has done everything possible to frustrate Atiku and his campaigns.
Wike, since he lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku at the party’s primary in May last year, has for months demanded Ayu’s resignation over what he termed “injustice” to southerners.
The five governors are Wike, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Seyi Makinde of Rivers, Enugu, Benue, Abia, and Oyo states respectively.
Emefiele, on the other hand, is the CBN governor responsible for the naira redesign policy of the apex bank.
However, the majority of ordinary Nigerian believe that the policy by the CBN is targeted at politicians who have stashed the old naira notes at home, thus the new naira notes will render the stashed cash useless.
It is also believed that these politicians rely on vote buying to get into power. Nigeria’s general election is eight days away.
The issue of vote buying remains a big challenge for Nigeria’s electoral system. It is widely believed that politicians buy votes from poor electorates on election days.
Of this CBN policy, many Nigerians believe that the issue of vote buying would be difficult to be carried out by desperate politicians particularly, presidential candidates.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the validity of the old N200 notes till April 10, 2023.
Buhari announced this in a national broadcast on Thursday morning.
