The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says it has arrested a 38-year-old indigene of Kano, Salman Umar Hudu at a hotel in Abuja for falsely representing himself as its Executive Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and other officers of the Commission.
The EFCC in a statement on its Twitter handle said Hudu was arrested on Tuesday.
The EFCC said the suspect was arrested after obtaining N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) from a person he convinced he can ‘handle’ any matter with the anti-graft agency.
According to the commission, the suspect has given useful information and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the EFCC, on Tuesday, raised the alarm about the activities of an amorphous group of so-called Civil Society Organizations who have recently embarked on a campaign of street protests, calling for the removal of the Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the activities of the group were aimed at discrediting the EFCC Chairman and inciting the public against the commission.
