Buhari Swears In Former IGP, Solomon Arase As PSC Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in the new chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase (retd.).

Buhari swore in Solomon Arase on Wednesday at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Reports say the former police IGP took his oath of office at 10:05 am in the presence of Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SGF Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, and other FEC members.

The swearing-in of Arase comes two months after the Nigerian senate confirmed him as chairperson of the PSC.

The former police chief, who is now, 65, retired in 2016.

Solomon Arase was the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police (between April 2015 and June 2016) and has served in various capacities including as head of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the foremost intelligence-gathering unit of the Nigerian police.

Five board members of the Code of Conduct Bureau were also sworn in by Buhari.

They include Murtala Kankia from Katsina State (North-West); Zephaniah Bulus from Nasarawa State (North Central) and Farouk Umar from Yobe State (North East), Taofeek Abdulsalam from Ondo State (South West) and Prof. Juwaria Badamasi from Kogi State (North Central).

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that Nigerians on Twitter have been reacting to the news by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority that bus fares in the state would be returning to 100%.

The commission disclosed this in a statement on its official Instagram handle on Tuesday.
