It was gathered that the terrorists killed the farmers while fishing and gathering firewood in Mukdolo village, about 19 kilometers north of Dikwa Town.
Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, confirmed that the fishermen were ambushed, tortured, and killed on Wednesday.
Military sources told the publication that dozens of terrorists riding motorcycles invaded the village yesterday and began shooting sporadically.
According to the sources, nine of the victims managed to flee, including three with bullet wounds, but the gunmen surrounded the remaining 26 victims at gunpoint.
“They asked them to lay down. Thereafter, they used their fishing net and wrapped it around them before they started torturing them. After they became unconscious, they opened fire at them, killing them instantly,” a source told Zagazola Makama.
The bodies of the 26 fishermen were later recovered during a search and rescue operation by troops who received the news from victims who escaped.
The victims of the attack are expected to be buried on Thursday.
This comes a few weeks after Boko Haram fighters killed 35 ISWAP members during a fierce fight between them in the Lake Chad region.
