Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Thrash Tunisia 4-0 To Clinch Bronze At U-20 AFCON

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles has defeated Tunisia 4-0 to clinch bronze at this year’s U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Nigerian team secured a fourth bronze medal at the 2023 U-20 AFCON by defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 4-0 in the third-place match on Friday afternoon.

The Flying Eagles dominated the match from start to finish, with their attacking prowess and solid defense proving too much for Tunisia.

A brace from Jude Sunday and a goal each from Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullahi earned Nigeria their biggest win in the tournament.

Muhammad got Nigeria’s first  goal of the match in the 9th minute.

The goalkeeper made two silly errors and his howler nearly caused the Flying Eagles to give up their lead but the goal was chalked off following a VAR review.

The Flying Eagles were sloppy in their play and this allowed the Young Carthage Eagles gain momentum in the first half.

However, two quick fire goal early in the second half, first from Abdullahi a minute into the second half.

Sunday then made any hopes of a comeback for Tunisia almost impossible with his strike in the 48th minute.

The resurgence from Ladan Bosso’s boys reinvigorated the Nigerian supporters in the stands whose singing voices at some point were lost with the Tunisians trying frantically to get something respectable from the game.

Sunday had some moments to double his goals and further make the score more comfortable but he fluffed the chances.

The forward however created a fantastic scoring chance for Olamilekan Adam’s but the latter was unable to reach the ball with the weight of the pass making it impossible to cause any damage.

Afterwards, goalkeeper Aniagboso made a brilliant one-handed save to push away a shot from distance away, handing the Tunisian a a corner kick.

Sunday then grabbed his brace in the last minute of normal time as he received a pass from Samson Lawal and crashed a fierce shot into the top left corner.

His 90th minute goal wrapper things up for the Flying Eagles by making it 4-0, after cutting inside from the left before volleying into the roof of the net.

Meanwhile, final will be contested between Senegal and Gambia on Saturday, 11 March.
