Asides from the reports of electoral violence and thuggery that flooded the media, the issues of tribalism also played a huge role in the disenfranchisement of citizens who wanted to perform their civic duty.
In Lagos for example, many Igbos were prevented from casting their votes by political thugs who also stopped some Yorubas from exercising their civic rights because they looked like Igbos.
Scores of citizens were reported to have sustained various degrees of injuries while some were alleged to have been shot dead as thugs cart away ballot boxes at polling.
Reacting to her Instagram story, Etinosa Idemudia said with all she witnessed, Nigerians shouldn’t cry fowl about racism because it is what some people practice under disguise.
The actress wrote: “After all I have witnessed in this country, No Nigerian should ever cry about racism cos y’all … Nah. Y’all are the real MVPs. Keep it up”
KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerian YouTuber, Sisi Yemmie revealed that she and her husband were not allowed to vote during the election in Lagos because they were mistaken for Igbos.
