Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has enjoined Muslims to “have our dear country in mind” as they ask for the forgiveness of the country’s numerous shortcomings and transgressions as they commence 30 days of Ramadan fasting.
He also asked them to seek special blessings for peace and Justice in the nation.
Peter Obi made the call in a goodwill message posted on his official Twitter handle on Thursday to mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to him, very striking about this year’s Ramadan is the fact that it is starting at the time when the Christians are 26 days into their 40 days Lenten season which also involves fasting, praying, and charity.
The former Anambra governor prayed that the supplications the adherents of the two religions will offer at “this very special time” will help to mitigate the sins of the nation, bring peace and harmony, and also “help our journey to salvation.”
Peter Obi wrote, “During this very sombre time in our nation’s political history, I would like to enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters as you begin the one-month fasting, praying, and alms-giving during this holy month of Ramadan, to have our dear country in mind as you ask for the forgiveness of our numerous shortcomings and transgressions, and seek for a special blessing for peace and Justice in our nation.
