It was gathered that the woman, identified as 28-year-old Audrey Hale, killed three children and three members of staff at the private school on Monday before being shot dead by police.
Multiple injuries have also been recorded in the shooting incident.
Nashville police spokesman, Don Aaron told a press conference that the shooter entered through a side entrance of the school on Monday morning and went to the second floor, firing multiple shots.
The assailant – who police said was believed to be a former student at the school – fired multiple shots as she advanced through the building.
Aaron said, “Police received call of an active shooter at 10:13 a.m. Officers responded swiftly, entered the first floor, and began clearing the area. They immediately went to the gunfire.
“Two of the five officers on the floor opened fire on the shooter and killed her by 10:27 a.m. She was in a lobby-type area.”
The Police spokesman said officials were still working to identify the three students and three adults killed in the attack, as well as the shooter who was armed with two assault-type rifles and a handgun.
Tennessee governor, Bill Lee, expressed his condolences and said he was closely monitoring the situation. He also called for prayers for the school, congregation & Nashville community.
US President, Joe Biden described the latest shooting as “sick” and said gun violence was tearing the nation’s “soul,” as he urged Congress to pass a ban on the assault weapons commonly used in mass shootings.
