EFCC Arrests 19 Akwa Ibom Varsity Students For Alleged Internet Fraud

Operatives of the Uyo command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested nineteen (19) undergraduates of the Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat-Enin, for suspected internet-related offences, otherwise known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”

The undergraduates were arrested on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to him, the suspects were nabbed at their private hostels: Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge both located at Ikot Akpadem in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Their arrest, he noted, followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scams, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions, and impersonation.

Items recovered from them include, several laptops and mobile phones,” the statement reads.

“They will be charged to court as soon as Investigations are concluded.”

This is after he was robbed by some criminals.
