FG Declares Monday As Public Holiday To Mark Workers’ Day

The Federal Government on Friday, declared Monday as a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

Workers’ Day is celebrated annually on May 1.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola disclosed this in a statement issued by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Shuaib Belgore.

Aregbesola commended workers for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice in positioning Nigeria as an icon of greatness among other nations.

There is dignity in labour. We need to have dedication and commitment to the work we do because it is vital to nation-building,” the minister said.

“The end of work is productivity. It is productivity that leads to the satisfactory provision of goods and services and wealth creation. It is therefore the path to national and individual prosperity.”

The interior minister asked workers to prioritise productivity and urged them to raise the bar of their trade in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Aregbesola commended security agencies for the successes recorded in the fight against crime across the country and encouraged them to be relentless in their pursuit of the total elimination of terrorists.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declined an application seeking to stop the 2023 census.

The federal government, in March, announced the 2023 population census would commence on May 3 and end on May 5.
