Audio of Obi and Oyedepo surfaced online less than 24 hours ago.
In the leaked audio, the former Anambra governor had called the cleric on the eve of the 2023 presidential poll to help instruct Christians in South West Nigeria, particularly Kwara state to vote for him.
However, one of the key comments by Obi in the conversation, that has caused a stir online was when he described the poll as “a religious war.”
“Daddy, I need you to speak to your people in the South-West and Kwara, the Christians in the South-West and Kwara. This is a religious war. Like I keep saying: if this works, you people will never regret the support,” Obi said in the audio released by Peoples Gazette.
Taking to his official Twitter on Sunday, Bashir Ahmad expressed dismay at Obi’s “religious war” comment.
He described Obi as a “Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG)” and thanked God the country dodged him in the February presidential election.
Bashir Ahmad wrote, “So Labour Party has confirmed the trending leaked audio in which Mr. Peter Obi, their former presidential candidate, called the 2023 election ‘a religious war’.
“Alhamdulillah, indeed, we dodged a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) in February.”
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Bishop David Oyedepo has reacted to the supposed leaked audio between himself and Obi saying he never campaigned for any politician.
He noted that all political parties sought his prayers and advice before the election and he availed them.
Also, the LP spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo has confirmed the audio conversation between Obi and Bishop Oyedepo.
