Federal Government Declares May 29 Public Holiday For Tinubu’s Inauguration

The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 29, 2023, as a work-free day for all employees to commemorate the inauguration of Nigeria’s 16th elected President.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the announcement in Abuja on Friday, said the public holiday was declared for the inauguration of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu. 

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, the Minister extended his congratulations to all Nigerians on this momentous occasion.

Aregbesola commended their unwavering faith in democracy, as demonstrated by the nationwide election that resulted in the President-elect and his Deputy taking office, as well as all elections held throughout the nation.

The Minister urged citizens to continue their support for and promotion of democracy by upholding the rule of law and preserving democratic institutions.

He emphasized that democracy is an ongoing process, and its development and ability to serve as a vehicle for good governance and the welfare of all people depend on adhering to its principles.

These principles include the rule of law, support for democratic institutions, the promotion of a free and responsible press, and the advancement of freedom for all individuals.

Ogbeni Aregbesola also encouraged Nigerians to foster ideals of peaceful coexistence and love for their neighbors. He emphasized that the practice of democracy and enjoyment of its benefits can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the relentless efforts of all Nigerians in establishing a continuous civilian rule and successfully transitioning governments since 1999.

Furthermore, he called upon citizens to support and collaborate with the incoming administration, recognizing that the boundless energy of the people is the nation’s greatest strength. By harnessing this energy positively in service to the nation, Nigeria will reach its highest potential.

The Minister emphasized the importance of rejecting violence and any other form of misconduct. He reassured the people that with everyone working together, the future holds great promise, and the nation will achieve greatness in all aspects of human development.”
