Gombe NLC Appeals To State Govt To Implement N30,000 Minimum Wage For LG Workers

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, has pleaded with the state government to implement the N30,000 minimum wage benefit to local government workers.

The state Chairman of the NLC, Yusuf Bello made the plea on Monday during the commemoration of the 2023 May Day celebration at Pantami stadium where trade unions and allied bodies gathered.

Reports say the state had implemented the minimum wage for only state government workers due to paucity of funds.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bello acknowledged and appreciated the commitment and political will of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.

He said, “Since the minimum wage committee is a standing committee, we are appealing that the committee should reconvene with immediate effect to look into the implementation of the minimum wage to local Government employees, the outstanding balance to some ministries in the state service and other issues associated with the implementation of the minimum wage across board in the state.”

He also reminded the governor of the need to clear outstanding gratuities, adding that every civil servant looks forward to getting his due.

Your Excellency Sir, gratuity is the last hope of a civil servant, we appeal to you to continue the good work you are been doing for pensioners in the state by releasing more funds to settle the outstanding arrears of gratuity in the state and local government,” Bello added.

While assuring the government of continued support towards achieving its goals, the labour boss also appealed for the resolution of outstanding issues in Gombe state university to enhance desired output.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has revealed what he believes unemployment has forced many Nigerian youths to do.

Sani in a short tweet on his official Twitter handle on Monday, argued that employment in the country has forced many youths to pursue masters and doctorate degrees.
