“I Owe You My Freedom And Sanity” – Seun Kuti Expresses Gratitude After His Release

Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti has taken to social media to appreciate everyone who stood by him after he was arrested for assaulting a police officer in Lagos.

KanyiDaily recalls that Seun Kuti turned himself to the police on Monday, May 15, after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, ordered his arrest for slapping an officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

On Tuesday, Seun Kuti was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court for assaulting a police officer, and was remanded since then at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.

After spending more than eight days in police custody, the musician finally regained his freedom around 7:45 pm on Tuesday night, May 23, after perfecting his bail condition.

Taking to his Facebook page, Seun thanked all those who stood by him including his family, lawyers, and friends, stressing that he owes them his freedom and sanity.

He wrote, ”I want to say a profound thanks to everyone who showed me all this love. All my friends showed up! Thanks most especially to my beautiful wife @chefyeidekuti.”

KanyiDaily had reported how Seun Kuti was appointed the ‘General Overseer’ by inmates and made to lead prayer sessions in police custody.
