Ike Ekweremadu and Doctor Obinna Obeta sentenced to 10 years imprisonement for organ trafficking

The former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria Ike Ekweremadu has just been sentenced to nine years eight months in prison for organ trafficking.

Kanyi Daily had earlier reported that the UK metropolitan police announced that the couple were arrested over the allegation of bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The duo, who were arrested following an investigation by the police’ specialist crime team, are both charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” a statement by the police reads.

A judge at The Old Bailey sentenced former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice and doctor Obinna Odeta to jail.

Ekweremadu was jailed for nine years and eight months, his wife Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment while Doctor Obinna Obeta who acted as the ”middleman” received a 10-year prison term and his medical licence suspended.
