Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were confirmed to be engaged after the Emmy award-winning journalist was seen earlier in the week with a 20-carats diamond ring on her finger, which roughly cost 2.5 million dollars.
Having previously been married to MacKenzie Scott for 26 years, Bezos’ wedding to Sánchez is the second time he would be walking down the aisle.
Unlike his previous marriage, Bezos did not have a prenuptial agreement in place and when they announced their divorce in January 2019, Scott benefited from a fortune estimated at $137 billion, consisting of 19.7 million shares of Amazon.com.
An American attorney, Brett Ward, who is the partner and co-chair of the family law practice group at Blank Rome, said Sánchez may experience a significant financial shift if she marries Bezos.
Ward, who spoke in an interview with Page Six on Tuesday, said that the 53-year-old journalist could potentially earn at least $1,000,000 per year for the duration of her marriage to the billionaire.
The lawyer dismissed any influence Bezos’ previous decision regarding a prenuptial agreement with Scott will factor into whether or not he will get a prenup with Sánchez at all.
He said, “Jeff is in a very different place now than he was then. He was on his way up and may have never been able.”
Ward pointed out that people who experienced contested divorces without prenuptial agreements in their first marriages are often more inclined to pursue one in subsequent marriages because “the experience of a contested divorce is often the best motivator.”
“What most people do not consider, are the financial and emotional costs of going to court without a prenuptial agreement,” he said.
“Litigants with this level of wealth can end up spending millions of dollars in court fighting over issues like the valuation and classification of assets.”
The attorney recommended that Bezos offer Sánchez a “fixed payment schedule tied to the length of the marriage in exchange for her waiving any of his assets or spousal support.”
“He can be sufficiently generous to her financially while at the same time saving the cost of an extended, costly, and likely public trial if the marriage does not work out.
“This is a strategy we often employ with high-net-worth individuals. It protects their assets and peace of mind,” Ward added
Brett Ward assured that Lauren Sánchez would receive assets “sufficient to provide a comfortable lifestyle for her and her [children] should the marriage with Jeff Bezos not work out.”
KanyiDaily recalls that before Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott ended their 25 years old marriage, the Amazon CEO was secretly sending raunchy texts and photos behind her back to Lauren Sanchez.
