On Monday, May 15, the EFCC issued a statement saying Mompha had been re-arrested. According to the commission’s statement, during a hearing on Mompha’s case on June 10, 2022, it informed the court that Mompha was in possession of another passport in addition to the one submitted to the court as part of his bail conditions, and that he used it to travel from Ghana to Dubai via Emirates Airlines on April 11, 2022, in violation of the court order. As a result, Justice DadaMo withdrew Mompha’s N25 million bail variation and issued a bench order for his arrest for failing to appear in court. The Commission is in charge of He was also wanted by the EFCC. The Commission stated that Mompha has been missing from the trial since June 16, 2022, and that it has been working to ensure his arrest and attendance in court. The Commission stated that during Monday’s court sessions, its lawyer, S.I. Suleiman, notified the court that the prosecution, in coordination with its international allies, had obtained the defendant’s detention. Suleiman informed the Ikeja Special Offences Court that the prosecution, working with international partners, had obtained Mompha’s detention.
“The prosecution wishes to inform my lord that, in collaboration with our international partners, we were able to apprehend the defendant.” We intend to take him into prison and bring him before the court. Suleiman was reported in the statement as stating, “The defendant’s counsel reached out to me seeking an adjournment because he will be absent today in court.”
Mompha, on the other hand, denied the claim in a message posted on his Instagram page today. He stated that he was in Dubai with his family. He alleged that whenever the commission seeks media relevance, they utilize his name to trend.
”IDAN WAS NOT REARRESTED BY THE EFCC; 33BG IS NOT IN THE CUSTODY OF THE EFCC.”
Contrary to recent reports in major Nigerian media outlets, I, Mompha, was rearrested by the EFCC. I want to utilize this medium to remind the dishonest and devious commission that I have not been rearrested and am not in the custody of the EFCC. This EFCC statement is absurd because I am currently not in Nigeria and have not been arrested.
I hereby request that the commission halt this insensible media trial and stop misleading people through the press/media that I am in your custody and will appear before the Court on July 3rd.
It is now evident that the EFCC’s primary goal is to witch-hunt me and exploit my name MOMPHA to trend whenever they need cheap media significance. One would assume that during this era of government change, Mompha would be the least of their concerns, and that they would be preoccupied with going after the corrupt politicians who are impoverishing regular Nigerians.
I’d want to thank all of my fans and well-wishers who are concerned about my well-being and safety, and I’d like to assure you that I and my family are OK and enjoying ourselves in Dubai, away from the intimidation and harassment of the EFCC and the corrupt Nigerian justice system.”
