The president’s personal assistant on media, Buhari Sallau, who disclosed this on his Facebook page, said that after careful consultations, the governors reached an agreement to officially designate the bridge as the “Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.”
During the virtual inauguration of the bridge on Tuesday, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma acknowledged that President Buhari he had fulfilled his promise to the region despite the south-east not voting for him in the elections.
Uzodinma said, “He asked for our votes, we did not give him. He made a promise and now he has fulfilled the promise even though we didn’t vote for him.”
Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo also expressed gratitude to Buhari, referring to him as “Mr. Infrastructure,” as he emphasized the lasting impact of his accomplishments.
He said: “As you (Buhari) leave office, the south-east will remember you. It would not be inappropriate to call you Mr Infrastructure. This is a promise delivered.”
Tolu Ogunlesi, the special assistant to the president on digital and new media, also confirmed that the decision to name the new bridge after President Buhari was unanimously agreed upon by the south-east governors.
Ogunlesi wrote, “Following consultations, the governors of the south-east have agreed that the Second Niger Bridge shall be named the Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.”
The Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, also confirmed the development in a tweet on Tuesday, adding that the bridge would be commissioned today.
His tweet read, “The Second Niger Bridge is to officially be called/known as Buhari Second Niger Bridge. The Muhammadu Buhari Bridge is officially commissioned today, by President Muhammadu Buhari. #PMBLegacy.”
KanyiDaily recalls that on December 15, 2022, the federal government opened the Second Niger Bridge for use, in order to ease traffic in the south-east during the festive season.
