We Uncovered “Suspicious Items” While Searching Seun Kuti’s House – Police

Lagos State Police Command has revealed why its operatives invited the residence of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, on Akin Osiyemi, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja.

KanyiDaily had earlier reported how the police stormed Seun Kuti’s residence in search of incriminating evidence, and they also seized his wife’s phone during the raid.

Reacting to Nairaland founder, Seun Osewa, who tackled the officers for searching Kuti’s house, Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that the discovery of suspicious items prompted the police to seek a search warrant from the court, which was duly obtained and executed.

“In the course of our investigation, we stumbled on certain suspicious things that needed to be proven/disproved beyond reasonable doubt.

“We, therefore, applied for and duly got a search warrant from the court which we have executed. Investigation continues.

“No law restricts the police to investigating only the initial crime. World over, Police Departments stumble on other crimes while investigating an initial crime,” Hundeyin responded.

“We are duty bound to investigate them in line with our mandate of detecting and investigating crimes,” Hundeyin said via his Twitter page.

KanyiDaily recalls that Seun Kuti turned himself to the police on Monday, after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, ordered his arrest for slapping an officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

On Tuesday, Seun Kuti was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court to face charges of assaulting a police officer, a violation of Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.
