Nigerian musician and socio-political activist Charles Oputa, better known by his stage name Charly Boy, has backed President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidies.
Following the termination of the subsidy, the new pump price of petroleum goods has soared, causing popular outrage.
In many regions of the country, Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) is being marketed for more than N500 per litre.

In response to the controversy, Charly Boy, a staunch supporter of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, endorsed the removal, saying there is no better moment than now.
In a tweet on his Twitter account, the musician stated that the fight is about more than only his favoured candidate, but also about supposed criminal groups disrupting the country’s economy.
“Listen and be informed,” he wrote. Okonjo Iweala bears the entire burden of subsidy elimination. There can be no other time, and the time is NOW.
“My fellow Nigerians this fight is really not about Obi. It’s about the criminals who insist on stealing our national patrimony leaving us poor and hopeless”.
