Kano NDLEA Nabs 1,064 Suspects, Seizes 7530.813kg Drugs In One Year

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it arrested a total of 1,064 from June 2022 to June 2023.

The acting Spokesman of the command, Sadik Maigatari stated this in a statement issued on Saturday.

The statement said the suspects arrested included 1,001 males and 63 females.

According to the statement, the command within the period under review recovered a total of 7530.813kg, which include 5228.673kg of cannabis, 2096.837kg of psychotropic substances, cocaine, 47.013kg, and heroin, 65.24kg.

The acting spokesman also stated that a total of 96 clients were admitted to the command’s Drug Demand Reduction, noting that 92 were males and four females.

He further stated that from the number, 68 were discharged, while 28 were still under rehabilitation.

“We also conducted brief intervention on 1081 people, mostly males (701) and females (380).

“In our prosecution unit, we charged to court a total number of 93 cases from June 26th, 2022, to June 26th, 2023, and secured 111 convictions.”

The Ag. PRO added that the command currently has 126 pending cases.

He stressed that the command adoption of the War Against Drug Abuse campaign program, as a prevention approach, proved to be highly effective.

This year, we achieved remarkable success in dislodging notorious drug joints and arresting dealers and users.

“Some of the joints we raided and dislodged include Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Bubbles Club, Kofar Na’isa, and many more.

“The creation of two additional area commands in Rano and Tudun Wada which has also enhanced our capability to crack down on drug abuse and trafficking in the state,” he said.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of TikTok music celebrity, Crown Uzama, popularly known as “Shalli Popi” and five others before Justice A. A Isiaka on a separate one-count charge bordering on criminal impersonation, offences contrary to Sections 142 (1), 57, and 308 of the Kaduna Penal Code Law, 2017, and punishable under Section 309 of the same Law.
