It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday, June 5, when the tribunal was preparing to hear the petition filed by the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, against incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Security forces were said to have cordoned off the road leading to the Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, but a large number of thugs stormed the venue to support their respective political parties.
Segun Showunmi arrived at the court when a clash erupted between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While intoducing himself to the security agents at the gate, Showunmi was mercilessly flogged by the thugs wielding sticks. Other political party supporters also fell victim to the violence.
The situation was eventually brought under control with the intervention of fully armed security operatives, including the police, DSS, and Civil Defense. They dispersed the thugs and prevented further entry of political supporters into the court premises.
