‘I’m Sorry My Debut Ended Way It Did’ – Super Falcons Midfielder, Deborah Abiodun Apologises To Nigerians

Super Falcons midfielder, Deborah Abiodun has apologised to Nigerians after she was given a red card that sent her off the pitch for a dangerous foul in the team’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign against Canada on Friday.

The card is the tournament’s first red card.

The Falcons began their campaign in Australia and New Zealand with a goalless draw against Olympic champions, Canada.

The yellow card given to Abiodun was upgraded to red after a VAR review in the 97th minute.

The replay showed the Rivers Angels’ midfielder tackling Ashley Lawrence with her studs hitting Lawrence’s shin. She will miss their next game against Australia.

Taking to her official Twitter handle, Deborah, said she was happy and honoured by the privilege in play in the Senior women’s national team for the first time.

She, however, noted that she was a bit disappointed that her debut ended the way it did, adding that “I’m sorry.”

She said she was overall grateful for the chance and “proud of my team today. Thanks for your support always #DA13 #NGA.”

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported how Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie helped Nigeria secure a 0-0 draw against Canada in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
