The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a lone gunman at a popular hotel in Awka, the state capital.

The gunman, whose name was given as Akuchieani Echezona was arrested by Surveillance operatives of the command, who observed him prowling around the premises on 20th July. 2023.

A statement issued by the command’s Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Sunday, said the operatives accosted the suspect and conducted a search on his person.

DSP Ikenga said one English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.

According to him, the suspect, who is a resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested, and taken into custody.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.

“The suspect is to be arraigned in court at the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement reads.
