Abuja Building Collapse: Nyesom Wike Directs Payment Of Victims’ Hospital Bills

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike on Thursday, directed the payment of the hospital bills of the victims of the collapsed building in the FCT.

Wike asked the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola to facilitate the payment.

Kanyi Daily earlier reported that the two-storey building located in the Garki area of Abuja collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.

The building, reports say, collapsed during a heavy downpour in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the incident in a press statement on Thursday morning, 37 persons had been rescued, with two of them fatally injured.

On the spot visit to the scene of the building collapse, Nyesom Wike, who was in the company of FCT Minister of State, Dr. Bariya Mahmoud, and the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Olusade Adesola, before embarking on a project tour, thanked the agencies for rescuing the victims, while directing immediate payment of hospital bills for the victims still alive.

Let me thank the agencies, particularly NEMA and FEMA that have supported us to rescue not less than 32 lives. It is unfortunate the two that are dead. I will discuss with the Permanent Secretary, to make sure that funds are raised to pay the hospital bills of those who are rescued. We don’t want to hear that any other person has passed on, and that should be done immediately”.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Wike had expressed dissatisfaction with the dysfunctional state of the Abuja light rail and directed the permanent secretary to complete payment to the Chinese concession company to conclude rehabilitation of the rails within eight months.

Wike gave the ultimatum on Wednesday when he inspected the Abuja Metro Station in Idu and at the Airport Station on his first assignment outside the office.
