FG Applies To Withdraw Firearms Case Against Godwin Emefiele, Files Fresh Charge

The Federal Government has applied to withdraw the case of “illegal possession of firearms” it filed against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

In an oral application, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.

But, Emefiele’s counsel, Joseph Daudu opposed the application and insisted that the government must first purge itself of the disobedience of the court’s order granting Emefiele bail before its application could be taken.

The case has been adjourned till Thursday, August 17, 2023 by Justice Oweibo when he will rule on the application.

The DPP, during an interview with newsmen, disclosed that a fresh 20 counts has been filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court against the suspended CBN governor.

He said one of the counts accused the ex CBN boss of “conferring unlawful advantages”.

This is a developing story.more details shortly.
