During an interview with Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Skales revealed that following EME’s decision to end his deal, he found himself homeless and resorted to sleeping in his car after he was ordered to vacate the house which was given to him.
The singer recounted how his journey towards success gained momentum after he uploaded his song “Shake Body” on SoundCloud, which rapidly gained viral traction.
Before the song’s breakthrough, Skales contemplated relocating abroad to start anew. However, an unexpected turn of events changed his path after he received a call from Harry Tee.
He reflected on his challenging period, saying, “When I left EME, I had nothing. Everything just ended in one day. I went from enjoying a luxurious life to sleeping in the car. As soon as my deal ended, I lost the house, they ,(EME management) told me to leave the house immediately.
“All I had was one car, a Ford Explorer. And I was sleeping inside the car for a long time. Little did I know that I had a song that was going to change my life on my flash drive.
“So months later, I just put out the song [‘Shake Body’]. I didn’t have any promo money, nothing. I just uploaded it on Soundcloud. And it was just a wildfire. It was crazy.
“I didn’t even know the song was big. I believed, but I gave up because I was trying to japa [relocate abroad]. Then I got a call from Harry Tee, God rest his soul. That was how my life changed.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Skales also recounted how his colleague, Naira Marley asked Tanzanian singer, Harmonize to remove him from their collaboration.
