He also made the same call to President Akufo Addo of Ghana and other Heads of State who are members of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS).
Sani made the call in a tweet on his official handle on Wednesday in reaction to the threat of military intervention in the Niger Republic should the coup leaders in that country fail to hand over power to Bazoum.
Recall that Bazoum was ousted on July 26th by his elite presidential guard who seized power and then detained him. The military coup drew condemnation from the US, France, the UN, and the EU amongst other countries.
In its reaction, ECOWAS under the chairmanship of Tinubu imposed sanctions on the country and, gave the putschists a week to restore Bazoum to power. The one-week ultimatum has since expired Sunday, August 6th.
Tinubu, however, said the bloc will do its best to resolve the crisis amicably but ECOWAS said it could resort to military intervention as a last resort. Niger’s junta meanwhile warned it would meet force with force.
According to Sani, when the military in Ghana overthrew President Kwame Nkrumah, President Sekou Toure of Guinea offered him the position of Co-President of Guinea.
He, therefore, urged Tinubu, Akufo Addo, and other ECOWAS members to extend similar love to Bazoum instead of threats of war.
