Please Stop Calling For A Coup In Nigeria – Shehu Sani Begs Nigerians

Ex-Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to stop calling for a coup in the country over the state of affairs in Nigeria.

Sani’s call comes a few days after Nigeria’s military high command, for the first time in years, frowned at some requests for the country’s armed forces to interfere in the democratic process of the country.

The reaction of the military comes on the heels of a recent allegation of poor welfare among troops across the services.

A statement issued by Defence Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau described the request as wicked and unpatriotic.

Sani, who since he left the senate, has become a public commentator, in a tweet on his official X handle on Monday, appears to agree that the country’s democracy is in a bad state.

He, however, added that “Our democracy can still be redeemed or refined.”

He argued that the struggle for a just, equitable, and more prosperous society can still be won within the context of democracy.

“Our countrymen, please stop advocating, soliciting or inciting for a coup in Nigeria,” the former lawmaker wrote.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that a 33-year-old suspected notorious criminal, Owonikoko Akeem arrested by the Ogun State Police Command has fingered a police Inspector as his gun supplier.

Akeem is said to have been terrorising the Obalende area of the state.
