Singer, Rema Reveals How His Father’s Death Changed His Mindset

Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about how the death of his father profoundly impacted his life and mindset.

During a recent conversation on the Afrobeats podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, the singer revealed that, as a child, he didn’t take life seriously and was mischievous and uncoordinated.

Rema explained that everything changed when he lost his father, Mr. Ikubor.

According to him, his father’s death served as a turning point, making him understand the true importance of life and family, an experience shaped his mindset and emotions, leading him to reevaluate his priorities.

The singer emphasized the significance of family bonds, recognizing that siblings might have disagreements and arguments, but the loss of a loved one serves as a reminder of how precious those relationships are.

He said, “It shaped me, to be honest. It shaped my mindset, my mood, you know. There was a point in time I was very colorful, I would say.

“I was funny, running around, and unserious. I never took life seriously until when I lost my dad. And it just shows different sides of people. It just shows the importance of family as well.

“Yeah, as siblings we might have our fights, and quarrels but you never know when you will just not see them again; the people you are closest” Rema added.

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2020, Rema called out Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the death of his father, Justice Ikubor, who was a chieftain of the party in Edo State.
