27-year-old Nigerian singer and rapper, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has been laid to rest in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12, under circumstances that have led to conflicting reports about the cause of his death.
According to some accounts, he had sought medical treatment for an ear infection but, following an injection, he lost consciousness and did not wake up again.
Other report claims that during a recent performance at a concert in Ikorodu, he was allegedly struck with a fetish object, commonly referred to as “juju.”
Despite the controversy surrounding his death, Mohbad was buried in accordance with Islamic rites on September 13, less than 24 hours after his demise.
Videos of the burial procession have circulated on social media, with some people expressing disbelief at the simplicity of the burial site.
In one trending video, one of the onlookers could be heard telling people to see where the famous singer would be laid to rest beside a cassava farm.
Speaking in Yoruba launguage, the man said, “See where they want to bury Mohbad, it’s inside a cassava farm, see cassava.”
Another man expressed surprise that the famous singer was laid to rest beside a cassava farm, not in a more luxurious setting, despite having a mansion.
He said, “Is this where they want to bury our Mohbad? Omo is this a joke? They must not bury Mohbad in this kind of place, is this where they want to bury him, my people? I even thought they would bury him in a mansion, see where they want to bury Mohbad.”
Despite objections from some people, Mohbad was finally laid to rest beside the house near the cassava farm on his family’s property in Ikorodu.
