The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will accredit voters in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi ahead of the November 11 governorship elections.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Commissioner of the Commission for Information and Voter Education, Mr. Sam Olumekun, and provided to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Olumekun said the mock accreditation scheduled for October 14 will use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and polling stations will upload the results to the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV).
He said the decision was taken in Monday’s meeting and preparations were being made for the off-cycle governorship elections in the three states, among other issues.
“As in the recent elections, the commission will use BVAS to carry out accreditation and upload TPS results to IReV,” he said.
The elections will be held simultaneously on Saturday, October 14 from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm in three states.
A maximum of three constituencies are established in each senatorial district, making a total of nine senatorial districts and 27 constituencies.
“we will ensure a smooth process on election day,” Olumekun said.
He said complete details of the electoral division, including Local Government Area (LGA), Registration Area (RA) / Ward, Delimitation Code and the number of registered voters have been uploaded on the INEC website and social media platforms.
News Agency (NAN) reports that the LGAs selected for the Bayelsa exercise are: Bronze, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, Ekeremor, Agenagoa, Kolokuma/Opokuma and South Ijaw.
Aboh Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, Owerri West, Ideato South, Ohaji Egbema, Nkwere, Ihitte/Uboma, Isiala Mbano and Imo Obowo LGAs.
In Kogi, the exercise will be held in Lokoja, Kabba/Bunu, Agabba East, Adavi Ajaokuta, Okehi, Dekina, Idah and Omala LGAs.
Olumekun invited registered voters at the selected polling station to participate in the Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
“Many say it is a test accreditation and not a real election,” he said.
