Ballon d’Or 2023: Thierry Henry names player to win award

Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry believes Lionel Messi should win the Ballon d’Or this year.

The prize will be presented on Monday, October 30 in Paris.

Messi is the overwhelming frontrunner to win the award for the ninth time after leading Argentina to World Cup triumph.

However, he will be pushed by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who scored 52 goals in the club’s Treble-winning season last year.

When asked about the topic, Henry told CBS Sports, “I mean, a lot of people can debate that, but if you win the World Cup, the way he did it, we can talk about what happened in the final.”

“As a Frenchman, I was a little bit disappointed with how it finished but you can’t say that it isn’t deserved if he wins it.

“A lot of people can claim that Man City players, Haaland and some other players can also say ‘why not me?’ but you can’t say that it’s not right if he wins it.”
