BET Hip-Hop Awards: Black Sherif wins big as Burna Boy loses seven nominations

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian musician, did not have a good night at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, which were held on October 3, 2023, in Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and broadcast Tuesday night (October 10, 2023).

Kendrick Lamar won Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year.

Burna Boy also lost the following awards: Hustler of the Year to 50 Cent and Best Collaboration of the Year for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ ft. 21 Savage to Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life.’

He also lost Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ feat. 21 Savage against Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Just Wanna Have Fun.’

Burna Boy also lost the following awards: Hustler of the Year to 50 Cent and Best Collaboration of the Year for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ ft. 21 Savage to Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life.’

Other defeats include Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ feat. 21 Savage to Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Just Wanna Rock’ and Song of the Year to the same song.

Meanwhile, Black Sherif, a Ghanaian prodigy, won the Best International Flow category, defeating South Africa’s late AKA and K.O, France’s Gazo and Ninho, the United Kingdom’s J Hus, Central Cee, and others.
