KanyiDaily recalls that the Lagos government recently enforced the demolition order served to occupants of illegal structures built on canals and waterways along Gedegede – Mobil road – Megamound Estate – Ikota drainage channels.
The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources said the demolition was initiated to prevent future erosion and flooding, as acknowledged by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.
However, the homeowners claimed that government officials gave approval for them to build. They also said they paid millions of Naira to the government and just a few years later, another set of government officials came to demolish their property claiming it was built on a canal path.
In his reaction, Emmanuel Emenike shared an image of the demolished property on his Instagram story, expressing deep empathy for the significant losses suffered by those affected.
The former footballer claimed that the homeowners had initially obtained permission from the Lagos State Government, only to witness the destruction of their properties later.
He criticized this action as a stark example of sheer cruelty and urged Igbos to repatriate their investments to the safety of their eastern roots in Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi.
Emenike wrote, “THE SADNESS IS TOO MUCH AFTER GETTING APPROVAL FROM THE SAME LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT, THIS IS PURE WICKEDNESS.
“IGBOS ARE IN TROUBLE, BRING YOUR INVESTMENT BACK HOME MY PEOPLE WE HAVE, ABIA STATE, IMO STATE, ANAMBRA STATE, ENUGU STATE AND EBONYI STATE.”
