In a Twitter post, Solomon Buchi expressed his belief that early exposure to phones and the internet is a significant factor contributing to the perceived challenges of the current generation.
The relationship expert said that he and his wife have decided not to allow smartphones for their children until they reach university age.
He, however, plans to provide a variety of activities such as a home library, music studio, painting studio, board games, and outdoor sports to encourage hands-on learning and real-life experiences. The use of a home computer would be restricted to screen time.
Buchi argued that beyond the moral concerns associated with children using phones, there are severe psychological consequences, particularly related to the short attention span observed in the current generation, which he attributes to the influence of social media.
The therapist advocated for a more holistic and immersive approach to childhood development, emphasizing real-life engagement over excessive screen time.
He wrote, “Early exposure to phones/internet is one of the reasons our generation is messed up. My wife and I agreed on no smartphones for our children till they get into university.
“They’ll have a home library, home music studio, home painting studio, board games outdoor sports, etc. Let them get their hands dirty in real life, and learn without the frequent interference of screens. The home computer will be restricted to screen time.
“More than the moral implications of letting children use phones, the psychological consequences are damning. The short attention span our generation suffers is because of social media.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Solomon Buchi recently argued that the concept of mutual submission in marriage, among Christian couples, is a modern distortion of biblical teachings.
