“Depression Caused Me To Start Drinking, But I Don’t Take Drugs” – Hanks Anuku [Video]

Nollywood actor, Hanks Anuku, who appealed for financial assistance amidst public concerns about his well-being, has disclosed that he is battling depression but is not involved in drug use.

Following a direct plea for financial support from fans and the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, Hanks Anuku admitted to struggling with depression after making headlines due to visible signs of distress, often seen disheveled on the streets.

Despite his appeal for financial aid, skepticism persists among Nigerians, questioning the purpose of the assistance without specific details. Some fans are advocating for rehabilitation, expressing concerns about Hanks Anuku’s mental health.

Reacting in a video shared on Instagram, Hanks expressed his gratitude to his fans who have supported him while he clarified that he is only depressed and not into drugs.

He said, “I know you must have heard of a couple of stuff about me, yeah, but God is on my side. He will send his angels and messengers to me, and when they are sent to me, you will all be part of it.”

The movie star clarified that he does not require rehabilitation, stressing that financial assistance is his primary need. He shared a video from a location where he plans to build his movie academy.

Hanks acknowledged his struggle with depression, mentioning its impact on his drinking habits but emphasized that he does not use drugs.

He said, “I have a film academy coming up, and I am here on the land where I want to build the film academy; it has been left fallow for years.

“I want you all to know that I know my depression causes me to drink a little, but I don’t do drugs. Out of depression, I didn’t have a job for years.

‘‘ I was thinking about my children, their school fees, their welfare, and other things, and you know what it is like when it gets to that point. I call it a breaking point. I was broken to pieces, and I had to go drinking, and that was it. I am just depressed because I don’t have funds to lift myself and my projects.”

Formerly an ex-special adviser on Tourism and Entertainment in Delta State, Hanks Anuku relocated to Ghana in 2014 and later returned to Nigeria. The actor remains hopeful for divine intervention and the support of his fans as he navigates his current challenges.
