Gunshots As Hoodlums Invade Polling Units In Bayelsa, Hijack Election Materials

Hoodlums have hijacked election materials at some polling units in the Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State.

Reports indicate that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, confronted voters attempting to thwart their actions, firing back at those who opposed them.

The incident occured during the ongoing election at Agorogbene in units 6, 7, and 8 of Ward 11 in the Local Government Area around 9 am on Saturday.

It was gathered that the thugs, who were allegedly accompanied by a certain politician, chased away voters and wreaked havoc on the election materials.

The armed group also raided the RAC center, seizing election materials designated for five out of the seven units.

There are speculations that the leader of Ward 11 for one of the political parties played a role in leading the armed thugs.

In Ogiadiama Ward 9, at Unit 14 in the Southern Ijaw Local Government area, gunmen attempted to disrupt the unit. However, the swift intervention of security personnel thwarted their activities.

Additionally, sporadic gunshots were reported in the Imbikiri area of Brass Ward 2 around 3:30 am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Famgbe, Yenagoa Local Government, a confrontation ensued between thugs and security agents, resulting in some recorded casualties.

KanyiDaily had also reported how gunmen kidnapped the INEC official assigned to registration area 06 in Ossioma, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
