PDP Ask INEC To Disqualify Hope Uzodinma, APC Over Alleged Fake Video

Less than 24 hours before the Imo State governorship election, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba on Friday said that Uzodimma should face disqualification for supposedly funding a video aimed at misleading the state’s residents against their candidate.

A video that circulated on social media on Thursday alleged that the PDP’s candidate, Sam Anyanwu, had purportedly urged his supporters to cast their votes for Uzodimma.

He praised TVC’s management for swiftly rejecting and condemning the misuse of TVC’s name, logo, and branding, which aimed to mislead the people of Imo State and give credence to the fake video

Ologunagba, expressing confidence in Anyanwu’s determination for victory, described the video as false and criticized Uzodimma for supposedly employing a last-minute underhand method to get the PDP’s candidate out of the way.

He found it worrisome that the creators of the fabricated video sought to mislead Nigerians into believing it was an authentic news production of the TVC.

The PDP reaffirmed Anyanwu’s continued participation in the governorship race and encouraged the people of Imo State to disregard the said video.

It stated “If there is anybody that should withdraw from the race, it is Governor Uzodimma, who has amply demonstrated that he is not ready to contest in a peaceful free, fair, and transparent election.

“The PDP calls on INEC to disqualify the APC and Governor Uzodimma as their reported involvement in producing and circulating the fake video constitutes a gross violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, the Nigerian Criminal Code and Cyber Crime Law.”

Kanyi Daily recalls that the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) had insisted that Prof Sylvia Agu will be responsible for overseeing the forthcoming Imo State governorship election.
