Sources in the Villa have confirmed that the gathering is expected to take place at 2 pm, and will involve prominent stakeholders, including members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, among others.
The meeting comes barely two days after Ondo State Elders and Leaders urged the President to swiftly intervene in the constitutional crisis within the state and prevent the imminent breakdown of law and order.
The Elders and Leaders urged both the state and national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, the governing party, to offer necessary guidance to those in government and ensure discipline within their camp.
In a letter directed to the President and signed by the convener, Reuben Fasontanti, and the secretary, Bakkita Bello, the elders specifically appealed to the State House of Assembly, urging them not to impeach either the Governor or his Deputy Governor.
“All unelected persons should allow the three arms of government to find a lasting solution to the current crisis,” they had appealed.
Ondo State has experienced a hotbed of political uncertainty in recent months due to Governor Akeredolu’s prolonged absence in Germany for medical treatment.
Despite Akeredolu’s return to Nigeria in the first week of September following a three-month medical leave, he has been functioning from Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Meanwhile, his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, faces an impeachment process initiated by Ondo lawmakers, alleging gross misconduct during Akeredolu’s absence.
Tinubu has issued an order for the police to withdraw from the premises of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure.
Kanyi Daily recalls that the Ondo State House of Assembly had scheduled to gather for a plenary session to deliberate on the current political situation in the state.
