‘Lagos is bigger than Ghana’ – Singer Efya

Efya, a Ghanaian singer, has dismissed similarities between the Ghanaian and Nigerian music industry, claiming that Lagos is “bigger” than Ghana.

According to Efya, Nigeria’s numerical advantage puts the country’s music business ahead of Ghana’s.

The Ghanaian musician stated that there should be no comparisons between the two West African countries, instead urging them to collaborate.

“Nigerian and Ghanaian music markets are not the same,” Efya stated in a recent interview with City 105.1 FM in Lagos. Nigerians outnumber us in terms of population. Numbers are extremely important right now. The number of people who would listen to Nigerian music in Nigeria differs from the number who will listen to Ghanaian music in Ghana. The figures are not the same.

“In the capacity of numbers, Lagos is bigger than Ghana. It is like the music hub itself. Nigerians are way bigger than we are. So, usually when I see people comparing, I’m like, ‘Do you guys know?’

“There shouldn’t be any comparisons. What I believe that we should do is be more collaborative. Find our vibes and put them together to advance what Afrobeats is going to be in the future; for us to be the gatekeepers of our own sound. And I think that’s the power move.”

Kanyidaily recalls that Pere also made up his mind to relocate to Ghana despite the comparison by celebrities.
