Lawyers In Defence of Democracy have urged Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court to probe the procedures involved in the order issued by Justice Donatus Okorowo.
He prevented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from carrying out fresh elections to occupy the lawmakers’ seats
Last week, four lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended 26 other members of the House
The Rivers State High Court also said that a fresh election must take place to fill the positions of the 26 lawmakers.
A recent development added a surprising dimension to the controversy.
Information from the Court of Justice Okorowo revealed a fresh order issued on December 15, prohibiting INEC from holding a new election to fill the seats of the suspended lawmakers
The court confirmed that Justice Okorowo issued the order, initiating the call for an investigation.
Kanyi Daily recalls that the Peoples Democratic Party had formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize new elections for the 27 seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
