Spyro along with Harvesters International Christian Center lead by Pastor Bolaji Idowu, received criticism for the performance.
In a viral video, Spyro was seen performing his hit song, “Only Fine Girl,” as part of a drama presentation at the church.
During the drama, the singer played a character tasked with seducing the king’s wife, incorporating “Only Fine Girl” into the storyline.
Some Nigerians condemned the inclusion of a secular musician in a church event and expressed disapproval of Pastor Idowu involving celebrities in the service.
Taking to his Twitter page, Spyro defended himself, asserting that he is a regular church member who has been worshiping at Harvesters for over seven years.
The singer emphasized his active involvement in two church departments and clarified that the Carol service, where the performance occurred, was free for all attendees.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Spyro stressed that being a celebrity doesn’t exempt him from participating in church activities.
He highlighted his role as a choir member and explained the context of the drama performance during the church’s annual carol service called Fantasia.
The singer emphasized his commitment to serving in a genuine church, reaffirming his status as a devoted Christian and human being.
He called for understanding and recognition of his right to participate in church activities, emphasizing that his celebrity status doesn’t diminish his ability to worship and serve God like any other church member.
He tweeted, “Just saw myself and pastor B has been getting dragged because I did a drama ministration I’m church 🤷🏽♂️
Let me make something’s very clear!!
1. I’ve been a member of Harvesters for well over 7 years, and I serve in two departments
2. The clip making rounds on social media is off a drama I took part of at our annual carol service called Fantasia
3. The Carol was completely FREE for all. The tickets were free!

4. Because I am a celebrity doesn’t make me human?? I can serve God like the rest of you naw l
So pls understand that I am Human, a Christian and I serve in a real church!!!”
In the video, Spyro said, “I’m a choir member in Harvesters. I wasn’t paid. Ain’t nothing wrong with me serving my God. Because I’m a celebrity should not restrict me from service. That was a drama in church.
Explaining why he sang the song, Spyro added, “Fantazia is the carol service that was held yesterday and the clip posted on Twitter is the clip of the drama that we did yesterday, and I was supposed to seduce the king’s wife in the drama, which was why I sang ‘Only Fine Girl’ to her.
“So I did that and the king got pissed and asked his guide to cut my head off, which is a typical story of Herod in the Bible.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Spyro recently expressed his dedication to creating evergreen music without resorting to explicit or ungodly lyrics.
