Veteran comic Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, also known as Alibaba, has claimed that he invented the majority of the jokes spoken by Nigerian comedians.

Despite rehashing his gags, the ‘King of comic’ believes he hasn’t done anything for the comic profession.

In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka, Deity Cole, and Husband Material, he discussed his experiences.

“Sometimes people will say I’m not helping, but 4/5 of the jokes you’re telling are mine,” Alibaba explained.

“I got a call the other day from a very popular skit maker.” He ejected one video. It’s a joke about… In Warri, someone wanted to cut someone’s light, so they brought dogs and cutlasses and told the guy, ‘When you finish, come down.’ That joke was told to me in 1988. They then turned it into a skit.

“There are several skits circulating that are inspired by my jokes.”

He advised skit makers and comedians to always give credit to the originators of their content ideas.
