“A woman has no right to return the bride price of a man” – Rita Edochie tackles Yul

Rita Edochie, a veteran Nollywood actress, has slammed Yul Edochie for demanding a bridal price from his estranged wife, May Edochie.

According to reports, Yul demanded a return of the bride price paid when he married his first wife, May Edochie, in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Yul’s aunty, Rita Edochie, commented on the development in a post on her official Facebook page, saying that May has no right to refund a man’s bride fee.

“A woman has no right to refund a man’s bride payment; rather, it is the man who travels to the woman’s homeland with his kinsmen to request the return of the bride price in the same manner in which he paid initially.

“Queen May has requested a divorce.” She begged Yul, our son, to come fetch the bride money, but he refused, believing queen May would eventually give in to his polygamous inclinations.

“It wasn’t until late 2023, when the case was taken to court, that he began demanding the bride price, which you (Judy Austin) have been urging him to do.

“The unfortunate thing is that this matter is now in full custody of the court and nothing can be done till the case is over in court. So I repeat, no pride price can be returned except with consent and order from the court. So you have to wait till whenever.”

Kanyidaily recalls that Rita Edochie shades Judy Austin for asking May Edochie to drop their husband’s surname.
