Simi discussed this topic on the latest episode of the Tea With Tay Podcast, drawing from her personal experience with her husband, Adekunle Gold.
The mother of one revealed that she lived with Adekunle Gold before they got married, using their relationship as an example.
According to her, cohabiting before marriage allows couples to understand each other better, revealing different aspects of their personalities that might not be evident in other circumstances.
Simi emphasized that living together allows people to witness their partner’s various behaviors, including moments of crankiness, hunger, waking up in the morning, or snoring.
She said, “I used to go over to Adekunle Gold’s place for us to spend time together.
“I am of the opinion that… Maybe I shouldn’t share this opinion because I feel like religious people might not agree with me.
“I personally think that people who want to get married should live together for a little bit before they do that. Because I don’t think you really know someone that you’re going to marry until you cohabit.
“The way someone is when they are outside in their best behavior is different from how they are when they are cranky and they haven’t eaten or when they wake up in the morning or when they are snoring.
While acknowledging that millions of people have married without cohabiting, Simi expressed her personal belief that it’s a good idea to live together before marriage, even if it’s not for an extended period.
She said, “When you live with someone you know all the sides to them, that is when you really know if you can do forever with them.
“Millions of people have gotten married without living together. But I personally think it’s a good idea to cohabit before marriage. It doesn’t have to be for long.”
In the interview, Simi also revealed that she never intended to marry a musician, revealing how she initially mistook her husband, Adekunle Gold, for a fan on Facebook.
The singer said she met him when he was working as a graphic designer, and their connection grew beyond her initial assumptions.
“I didn’t know my husband was singing when I met him because I already said I cannot marry a singer. I thought he was even a fan. He used to do this ‘King of Photoshop’ at that time.
“He sent me a message on Facebook but I never saw it nor did I reply. I sensed that he would be good for me,” she said.
Adekunle Gold got married to Simi in 2019 and they welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Deja in 2020.
KanyiDaily recalls that a few days ago, Simi and Adekunle Gold celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary with the release of their music video.
