NCC Approves Partial Disconnection of Glo by MTN Over Unpaid Charges

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved MTN’s request to partially disconnect Globacom (Glo) from its network owing to unpaid interconnect charges.

Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, disclosed the decision through a document titled ‘Pre-Disconnection Notice’ on Monday.

This follows Glo’s inability to resolve its outstanding debts despite repeated attempts to do so

Under this partial disconnection, Globacom users will be limited to receiving calls from MTN users without the ability to make outgoing calls to MTN.

However, all other network features, including calls to other networks and data services, will stay active for Globacom customers

The statement read, “All subscribers are, therefore requested to take notice that the Commission has approved the Partial Disconnection of Globacom to MTN by Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 and Paragraph 9 of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.

“At the expiration of 10 days from January 8, 2024, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.

“The Partial Disconnection, however, will allow in-bound calls to the Globacom network,” it stated

Kanyi Daily recalls that MTN Nigeria Communications Plc had kicked off an open Fifth-Generation (5G) pilot in the lead-up to its highly anticipated commercial launch in seven states including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Owerr,i and Maiduguri.
