During a recent interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, the activist shared a compelling account of her relationship with her husband, revealing that when they first met, he was involved with 87 girlfriend.
According to her, these relationships were not only romantic but also involved intimate encounters.
Adetoun Onajobi said that her husband, known as Baba Ashabi, surprised her when he claimed to be actively seeking employment for these women, despite lacking a job himself.
She said she questioned his sincerity, pointing out that he had relocated from Lagos State but continued to involve himself in finding jobs for others.
Despite the challenges, Adetoun asserted her belief in the capacity for men to change, using her husband as an example of transformation.
She said, “When I met him, he had 87 girlfriends… my husband had 87 girlfriends, like girls that he was sleeping with. They were enjoying.
“Baba Ashabi will tell me that-let me even shock you he will tell me that he is looking for a job for them. I said, ‘You who has no job, where is your recruitment center? Where are you looking for a job for them? You have left Lagos State; you are the one looking for a job for them.
“Baba Ashabi! So when people tell me men can’t change, I tell them you haven’t experienced mine. I took it one step at a time.”
The activist also delved into the spiritual dimension of their struggles, recounting encounters with a woman described as a “pure mermaid.”
Adetoun said she faced battles with people seeking revenge, dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, and encountering women who claimed long-term relationships with her husband.
She said, “Spiritually, there was one who was a pure mermaid. This one will even come and appear to Baba Ashabi. There was a day we were supposed to travel together, and Baba Ashabi pleaded with the lady that he wouldn’t go with me but would come to meet her mother and plead with her.
“So, Chude, one after the other, I fought the battle. Some people came with revenge; he got me pregnant and said he wouldn’t collect it. Another one came and said she dated him for 15 years; another one will say l’ve been with him for twenty-something years…”
On why she stayed despite all she faced, Adetoun said she viewed her role in his life as an assignment, acknowledging the struggles he underwent.
“Because I realized I’m on an assignment in his life. He also struggled with it. If you send my husband a text message on his phone, I will receive the same message. If you chat with my husband, I will receive the same message. I took my time to understand what he had gone through,” she said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Adetoun Onajobi also revealed that when her father died, hospitals and mortuaries refused to admit his body, citing concerns related to his affiliation with the Ogboni Fraternity.
