The attacks took place at midnight on Saturday, with the sound of gunshots echoing through the village situated 17 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital.
Amid the attack, a mobile policeman and two civilians lost their lives, while the district head’s palace in Kukareta, located on the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, was set on fire by the assailants
Eyewitnesses observed the attackers, believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, descending upon homes, looting food items, and setting houses ablaze.
“We lost three people, including a police mobile officer who died of a gunshot wound during the attack,” recounted a witness.
Major General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the state security adviser, confirmed in a press statement that suspected Boko Haram terrorists carried out the assault, burning down the district head of Kukareta’s palace and two patrol vehicles belonging to security personnel.
The incident also targeted an election collation center at Kukareta, resulting in the tragic loss of one police officer and two civilians.
