400-Level ABSU Student Killed During Cult Clash In Abia State University [Video]

A 400-level History and International Relations student at Abia State University (ABSU) has lost his life during a clash between rival cult groups.

The Abia State Government confirmed the death during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday and chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, briefed journalists on the unfortunate event, revealing that the state government has taken immediate action to address the situation.

Kanu said that security agencies have been deployed to the institution to restore normalcy, and the government has emphasized the importance of maintaining peace on campus.

He urged students to refrain from engaging in violence and focus on their studies, stressing that the government is committed to investigating the matter.

Okey Kanu said, “It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, between student groups where a student lost his life.

“Some videos have been trending online to the effect that a student lost his life in these skirmishes.

“As a responsive and responsible government, some remedial actions have been taken to restore peace and order on campus.

“Government has dispatched security agencies to take control of the situation at ABSU. Investigation in that regard has been instituted.”

According to reports, tensions are running high at the university following the clash between the rival cult groups that resulted in the tragic loss of the 400-level student’s life.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the victim was attacked on Monday by members of a rival group within the university premises.

While the school authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, confirmed awareness of the matter and assured the public that the police are actively investigating the incident.
